TWO HASLEMERE police officers have been rewarded for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Police constables Stephen O’Shea and Nicola Warner have been awarded with Surrey Police divisional commendations.
Commended for their professionalism and willingness to assist an ambulance crew at a fatal road traffic collision, Pc O’Shea (received his award at a special Surrey Police divisional commendation ceremony held at Guildford Cathedral.
The award followed attempts by the bobbies to save a man’s life after a serious road traffic collision, involving a car and a pedestrian, on the A286 at Grayswood, in February.who
The two officers had been sent to the scene after paramedics, who had already begun to resuscitate the severely injured pedestrian, called for assistance.
Pc O’Shea and Pc Warner were both willing to assist in performing CPR in an attempt to save the man’s life.
Pc O’Shea had attended a horrific and extremely traumatic incident just 24 hours earlier, but despite that, he was back on duty and willing to provide support to save the injured man.
Pc Warner directed his colleague to take care of the traumatised driver of the vehicle, while he continued to help the ambulance crew with CPR and vital first aid.
Sadly, the man died before he was taken to hospital but both officers showed enormous strength of character and professionalism at the distressing incident.
The two constables were among a group of Surrey Police officers and staff who were rewarded for their determination, dedication and passion as well as courageous acts, great leadership skills and professionalism.
Pc Warner was unable to attend the ceremony.
