A RECORD sum was raised this year for Children With Cancer by eight year-old Great British Bake Off fan Brooke Garland.
Last year, after watching the charity special Celebrity Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer, Brooke came up with the idea of running her own cake sale for a cancer charity – and doing the baking.
She devised a plan with her mum Haslemere Youth Hub Street Nation dance school co-founder Karen Musco, and designed and drew her own invitations, which she sent to friends and family.
Brooke hoped to raise £100 and was thrilled to make £250.
This year, at the end of the school summer holiday, she held a second cake sale in aid of Children With Cancer and made just under £350.
As before, Brooke came up with the plan and put it into action.
Karen said: “Fortunately, the weather was glorious and everyone was able to enjoy the lovely garden of Annie and Chris Garland, Brooke’s grandparents.
“Some of the cakes on sale were donated, but Brooke baked a lot of them herself.
“Brooke’s first cake sale raised £250. This year, she far exceeded that by raising £340 for the charity.
“Raising almost £600 in two years is an amazing achievement for someone who’s just eight years old.”
