CALA HOMES has exchanged on a conditional contract to purchase The Royal Junior School, off Portsmouth Road in Hindhead, subject to planning consent being granted.

The 24-acre site has a draft allocation in Waverley Borough Council’s Local Plan Part Two for approximately 90 new homes, including affordable housing, which proposes to retain and convert the principal school building to new apartments as well as family homes.

The school building is mock-Tudor.

It currently houses the prep school, which will join the sister campus at Farnham Lane, Haslemere, which currently houses the senior school.

Cala has a track record in Waverley, having secured reserved matters consent for 190 homes in Milford last year, while also progressing its Ockford Park development in Godalming and Folly Heights in Farnham. Cala has also finished schemes in Cranleigh and Alfold.

Nick Brown, land director at Cala South Home Counties, said: “We have many years of operational experience in Surrey, having delivered a number of quality homes in the area.

“We understand the wants and needs of the local community and are thrilled to be adding the school site to our offer.”

The Royal Junior School, operating as United Church Schools Foundation Ltd, was represented by Turner Morum LLP.
