WAVERLEY Borough Council leader Robert Knowles has been accused of "holding a gun to the head" of a charity meeting the needs of older people across the Farnham area.

It comes after The Herald obtained a leaked letter written by the council leader unveiling plans to "force" the Waverley branch of Age UK to move location - an option the charity said would threaten its future - or face a cut in its funding.

The Waverley branch of Age UK, formerly Age Concern, was opened by the council in 1992 and many thousands of residents have benefited from its advice and information, gardening and handyman services and day centres.
