WEY Hill’s popular annual Christmas Market extravaganza on Saturday went down a treat and was boosted by Haslewey Community Centre’s Christmas Fayre.

Fresh from the fun of the fair, a record crowd of more than 500 residents enjoyed singing along to St Stephen’s Band at Haslemere Christmas Carols concert, which started at 5pm on Lion Green.

Haslemere Rotary ensured Santa paid a special visit on his sleigh and residents enjoyed three live music performances by different local acts before joining together for rousing renditions of everyone’s favourite carols.

Town mayor Sahran Abeysundara said: “Haslemere town crier Christian Ashdown did a brilliant job getting everyone in the mood. It was our largest Christmas carols concert ever and we had a vast crowd.

“Wey Hill shops support the event and next year I hope we can have an ice rink and a Victorian-style Christmas carousel.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came out on Saturday night to join together and spread some Christmas joy. At this very special time of year, I pray for peace, not just globally, but within each and every one of us.

“I pray for happiness from shore to shore and within our society. I pray for love in every corner of this land that is Haslemere.”
