A CENTENARIAN, who puts her longevity and fit and healthy life to being a keen cyclist, has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Muriel Barfoot, who lives at Shannon Court care home, in Hindhead ,celebrated her special day with family and friends and a birthday card from the Queen.

To mark her amazing milstone last month, Muriel enjoyed cake, sandwiches and some sweet treats and was joined by her daughter, grandson, his wife and her four great grandchildren.

Muriel grew up in Southampton and was the eldest of six children.

She married her husband in 1947 and they had one son and one daughter.

Previously, Muriel worked at rubber manufacturers Pirelli as a shop steward and was in charge of the production of casing, which was used for underwater cabling in the Atlantic.

Muriel has been living at Shannon Court, in Alvernia House, the home’s dementia support house for the past year.
