Children from The Den Church Youth Group lent a hand collecting litter on Lion Green.

Rev Justin Manley-Cooper from Haslemere Parish was joined by a group of 11 children who all volunteered their time to help the Haslemere community and support the local environment.

The team of volunteers borrowed litter-picking kits, complete with hi-vis vests, litter pickers and bin bag holders from local charity Love Haslemere Hate Waste.

The children were supported by the group’s dedicated volunteers and Verity Sutherland, children and families worker for Haslemere Parish, who led the Lion Green pick. They collected small pieces of rubbish across the park and bottles scattered in the hedgerows. The pick comes in advance of the Jubilee celebrations.

Verity said: “We were delighted to see the enthusiasm of all the children to collect litter and make a positive impact on their local environment.

“They all felt empowered to make a real difference to their area, and this is exactly in the spirit of our church youth group.

“We’re hoping to get involved in more community and environmental projects, and support those already doing great work locally, so please do get in touch with us – we’d love to collaborate.”
