Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney will be the headline act for the annual Children in Need Dine and Disco - on June 25 at Chris Evans’ pub The Mulberry Inn

And it could also be the swan song event for the Chiddingfold venue under its current ownership.

It’s all change for the high-profile watering hole owned by the Radio 2 DJ in partnership with manager Camilla Hansen, which has just been put up on sale for £1.25million.

It will be business as usual until The Mulberry is sold and this year’s Dine and Disco event, which raised £2 million for Children in Need when tickets were auctioned last November, is a definite fixture even if a sale has gone through.

This year’s 10th anniversary extravaganza was billed last year as the “last ever”, and Chris has promised to stage the party out in the pub garden’s Tepee of Love for the select group of 80 guests.

Definitely a star attraction in the village since Evans snapped the pub up in 2006, The Mulberry has attracted a host of big names, including Gary Barlow and Tom Jones, to headline previous Children in Need fundraisers.

It also hosted a series of hugely popular ‘Supercar Sunday’ events in aid of charity with the P1 Supercars Club.

The new BBC Top Gear host may be losing his links to Chiddingfold, but his new connection with Dunsfold Park will go global when he takes to the wheel for the new series of the motoring show when it launches in May.

The sale of The Mulberry spells the end of Evans’ pubs locally. He sold his 15th-century pub The Lickfold Inn, in West Sussex, in 2010 – it re-opened in 2014 with Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers at the helm.

Camilla told The Herald: “We have had a lovely 10 years here. This was something we always said we would do for a while but not for ever.

“We will be trading as usual until the business is taken over and we will definitely be here for Children in Need on June 25. We are also hosting an amazing night of live music on June 4 to celebrate 10 years at The Mulberry.”

The sale is being handled by Christie & Co’s Winchester office.

Agent Richard Wood said: “Having been run under management for a number of years, The Mulberry represents a fantastic opportunity for either an existing owner/operator or multiple operator to acquire a well established business with a high reputation.”
