THREE friends from Haslemere were some of the many Godalming College students celebrating an “outstanding” crop of A-level results last Thursday.
Imogen Vorley and George Chantry are now headed for Oxford University while Eamonn Lynch-Bowers is off to London’s University College after netting an impressive nine As and three A*s.
As well as being president of the student union and playing saxophone in the jazz band, George found time to gain an A* in maths, and A in history, further maths and politics and will study PPE at Oxford;
Imogen got As in biology, chemistry, maths, further maths and physics, and a B in extended project qualification (EPQ).
She will read medicine; while Eamonn got A* in English literature, history and EPQ and an A in German. He will read law.
The A-level pass rate at Godalming was 99.4 per cent, with 61.2 per cent of students gaining an A* to B grade and 31.3 per cent A* to A grade. Some 77 students achieved A* and A grades in all their subjects. The BTEC pass rate was 99.8 per cent with 86 per cent earning distinction or merits
As well as heading the fundraising Friends of Dan Eley Foundation group at the college, Ben Sheppard sailed through his exams, achieving A* in economics, and an A in politics, history and EPQ. He gained an Army sixth form scholarship while at college and will now take up a place at Sandhurst. the Royal Military Academy.
New college principal Emma Young said: “Our students have continued to achieve the very highest levels. I would like to congratulate them for their hard-work and commitment. Over 800 students have achieved the qualifications they need to progress onto university or employment and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
