Award-winning puppetry and visual theatre is coming to two local National Trust estates this summer.

Smoking Apples will be bringing their will be bringing their unique production, Arbor the Tree, to Winkworth Arboretum next weekend followed by Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl this July and August.

Arbor is part man, part tree and 17 feet tall and tells the story of nature and conservation in a way only a ‘tree’ can.

The show tells the story of a tree pushed from his home and his fight to preserve his future. It is a visually stunning show with lots of loveable puppets and audience interaction. 

A fun, education experience for all the family, the audience will be encouraged to plan and nurture their own trees leaving a legacy for future generations.

Arbor and Smoking Apples come to Winkworth Arbortum south of Godalming this Saturday and Sunday (June 3 and 4), and Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl on July 30 and August 13, at 11am and 3pm.

It’s part of a ‘Summer of Play’ at the National Trust’s Hindhead Commons estate, with activities on daily through the summer holidays (July 22 to September 3). The green near the viewpoint at Hindhead will be home to a variety of free sporty fun where you can challenge friends and family to games such as volleyball, football or bowls. Or visit the natural play area for more adventures in nature.

There’s no need to book but usual car park charges apply at Hindhead, and normal admission applies at Winkworth. More details here: nationaltrust.org.uk/surrey
