A FARNHAM man has completed the John O’Groats to Land’s End cycling challenge to raise money in memory of his friend.

Following the death of his friend Awais Ali when cycling home, Tom Bailey, 21, decided to complete the JOGLE challenge and raise money for Brake, a national charity that works to prevent road injury and death, and support those bereaved and injured in accidents.

He started his journey on August 1, flying from Gatwick to Inverness before taking a train to Thurso in the Scottish Highlands.

From there, he cycled to John O’Groats and began his journey to Land’s End, completing it on August 19.

The journey Tom took across the mountainous terrain of Sutherland and Cairngorm National Park, followed by the Lake District and west country moorlands was described as "gruelling", enduring all weather conditions being thrown at him.

Tom’s father Anthony Bailey said: "Tom thoroughly enjoyed it - the lows were obviously the tough weather conditions but he soldiered on through.

"He met so many kind and generous people along the way and was met with a round of applause that made him feel like an Olympic star!"

So far Tom has raised £1,285 for Brake, and is still taking more donations for the charity.

The charity campaigns for safer roads, and provides free community training as well as running a helpline.
