Farnham’s Food and Drink Festival is just a matter of days away as the town council and stallholders make their final preparations.

The festival takes place in Castle Street, The Borough, Central car park and the Bush Hotel on Sunday, September 25 from 10am to 4pm.

The town council cancelled this Saturday’s Farnham Gin and Fizz Festival out of respect to Her Majesty the Queen.

But the council has confirmed the Food and Drink Festival will go ahead, suitably adjusted in accordance with the period of royal mourning.

“Residents, visitors and stallholders are looking forward to the festival taking place on September 25 and, together with our sponsors, having considered the official guidance for the period of national mourning and the mood of the nation, we have decided it will go ahead,” said Councillor Kika Mirylees, Farnham’s lead member for tourism and events.

“More than 100 stallholders will bring high- quality produce to the streets of Farnham and demonstrate their culinary skills, so come along for this wonderful free day out.”

The festival features stallholders specialising in different food traditions from around the globe as well as producers championing the best of British or English regional cuisine.

Among the experts on hand to share tips will be local brewers and distillers as well as mixologists demonstrating this year’s cocktail trends.

Festival-goers can expect cookery demonstrations from top-class chefs plus the latest gadgets as well as advice on skills and techniques.

The ever-popular chilli eating competition will also feature and, for those wanting something less spicy, there will be plenty of other opportunities to try new flavours and ingredients.

“We expect the town centre to be very busy so please consider walking, cycling, public transport or the free hoppa shuttle bus operating every 15 minutes to and from the event throughout the day from locations in north and south Farnham,” said Cllr Mirylees.

“Sponsorship from our gold sponsors the Bush Hotel, Farnham Veterinary Hospital and Kidd Rapinet secures this year’s festival as a really great day out for all.”

Taking place on the same day as the festival is the farmers’ market which will be held in Central car park from 10am to 4pm.

Farnham Food and Drink Festival has become one of the largest one-day festivals of its type in the south east and attracts visitors from all over Surrey and beyond.

It has a growing reputation among foodies for bringing together an impressive breadth and quality of food and drink.
