During the pandemic, Haslemere Town Council took on the licence for the under-used Fieldway Community Pavilion.

After giving it a lick of paint, it was opened up to the community for post-pandemic support and to help Ukrainian guests. But now Waverley Borough Council (who own the centre) want to charge Haslemere council £7,500 a year in business rates - which the council cannot afford.

At present, running costs for the pavilion are minimal, totalling around £100 per month. But it is not being utilised to its full potential.

Before Haslemere council makes a decision about the centre’s future, Councillor Claire Matthes is asking her fellow councillors if they have any ideas for the space. The council will then approach Waverley to try and continue the licence under the current terms.
