IT was frying pans at the ready for children at The Chandler Junior School in Witley, marking the beginning of Lent by holding pancake races.
The children in year five had donned their chefs' aprons and made their own pancakes ready for the races.
Then each of the four year groups were split into their four house teams before races were held to find an overall winner for each year group.
Teacher Rachel Jones explained: "The winning pancake flipper won extra play time for all those children in their house in each year group. The winning houses were Harris (year three), Case (year four), Fenton (year five) and Harris (year six)."
Headteacher Tim Burgess said: "It's been a fantastic day. The children have had a lot of fun and in the process learnt about Shrove Tuesday. As a church school we think it is important to mark these festivals and make them memorable in some way or the traditions will get lost. It has also been an opportunity to look at how other countries celebrate Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday."
