A HARVEST festival assembly at The Royal Junior School began with the beautiful sound of the junior string ensemble.
Every class read a poem or prayer or performed a song and Prep 5 and 6 choirs were joined by Young Voices, newly formed by Caroline Davy, head of junior school music.
The assembly featured an eye-catching arrangement of fruit and vegetables, including some grown in the junior school’s allotment garden.
All the generous food donations were delivered to Haslemere Food Bank by deputy head Jenny De La Force, together with the junior head boy and girl and their deputies.
As well as celebrating the harvest festival, Prep 1 enjoyed an afternoon of music-making with the residents of Huntington House in Hindhead to celebrate BBC Music Day.
The afternoon started with one of the residents singing a song the children already knew from their previous visits in Comets class.
Pupils then sang songs interspersed with with performances by violinists, a cellist and a toot player.
Mrs Davy said: “The residents were delighted to hear them perform and the children were thrilled they were able to share their love of music. Their faces lit up with sheer joy when the residents copied their singing and actions.”
