BACK on the beat of a different kind were Haslemere Police Old Comrades who met up for their latest reunion.

Organised by John Stone, who was a sergeant at Haslemere from 1975-91, the 24th reunion was held this month.

With 33 beating a path to the Devils Punchbowl Hotel and complete with lots of reminiscing of the good old days, the comrades and guests sat down to a splendid lunch, supervised by new manager Michael.

Among those Mr Stone specially welcomed back were Ted Lawry and his wife Babs. He also greeted “first timers" Nick Owen, John Robini & Jacqui, Gwen Crossan, Wilf Hodder and his wife Gillian, and Denis Harvey-Hepherd and said how delighted he was to see some new faces.

Well known local coppers present were Chris Stemp, John Bristow, Colin Grafham, Doug Smallbone, and John Stone.

During the meal, Mr Stone raised a toast to "absent friends” in memory of Bill Murray; Christine Bartlett; and Alma Warner who had all passed away in the last year.

Apologies were received, among them from Bob Brown and Ricky Bailey, both in their 90’s who were unable to travel to the event.

Happy birthday was sung to Gwen Crossan who celebrated her birthday on the day of the reunion.

Pictured at the reunion are Colin and Mary Grafham, John Robini and Jacqui, and John and Cess Bristow.
