Two educators have swapped the classroom for the kitchen as they aim to teach children the joy of baking cakes.

Kirsty Blandford and Tracey New both worked at Chawton CE Primary School until last summer, as an assistant head and a teaching assistant respectively.

Now the blackboards in their lives carry details of the tasty treats available at their new venture, the Bluebell Cake House in Lenten Street, Alton.

Kirsty said: “I had an on the side cake decorating business for years and we decided we wanted to teach children to bake.

“We also talked about having a tearoom and having baking classes and children having fun with all things baking.

“We’ve got a thriving little after-school club on Tuesdays and we hope to expand that to three classes for different age groups.

“So far they’ve made cupcakes, cheese straws, cookies, scones - and a Victoria sandwich!”
