TWO weeks after the shock announcement that Haslemere’s landmark grade II listed hotel had gone into administration, comes the news that it is now on the market for a whopping almost £2.5 million.
In a statement on Tuesday, the London property giants Christie & Co announced that it had been appointed to sell it on behalf of the administrators.
Uniquely situated on the High Street, the 43-bed hotel, almost opposite Haslemere’s Museum has had a chequered history in recent years and been in the hands of administrators twice in three years. It boasts a spa, restaurant, bar and conference/meeting room facilities.caters for corporate events as well as private functions and dinners, and is also fully licensed for civil marriages and partnerships.
A spokesman for Christie & Co said: “We expect the property to appeal to a wide range of buyers including those looking to purchase a single asset as well as those looking to expand their current portfolio. We also anticipate high levels of interest from both national and international investors attracted to the UK market.”
The hotel, which is still open for business, is on the market with a guide price of £2,499,500. It dates back to the 18th century takes its name from the American state of Georgia which was founded by Sir James Edward Oglethorpe, whose portrait is depicted on the hotel sign on the High Street.
He lived in the Town House nearby and was MP for Haslemere.
The announcement The Georgian had gone into administration was greeted with sadness by Chamber of Trade president David Goddin who descibed it as a great asset for the town.
