A HUNDRED years of council housing were celebrated by tenants at a party hosted by Waverley Borough Council and held in Haslewey community centre.

Keen to mark the centenary, Waverley is holding similar parties for tenants to get together and share stories in Godalming, Farnham and Cranleigh, sponsored by the Tenants Panel, Places Leisure, MPS and Thakeham, and the opportunity to win donated raffle prizes.

A timeline at the Haslewey event charted national events together with the history of council housing, including early photographs.

Waverley’s housing portfolio holder Councillor Anne-Marie Rosoman said: “Many thousands of families have benefited within our borough and we are now in the minority of councils that still owns a significant stock of council houses.”
