HASLEMERE Rotary Club has sprung into action to raise funds for Ukraine.
The club immediately made funds of £2,000 available to be given to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Haslemere Rotary is now aiming to raise a further £8,000 to go to other frontline charities helping Ukraine. The distribution of the funds raised will be reviewed on a weekly basis, so it can promptly be made available to those charities that can react quickly to the changing war scenario.
On Saturday, the Rotary started collecting in Charter Walk, Haslemere.
Oliver of Oliver’s Coffee said he would contribute to the cause by matching the collection up to £250.
Within the first 45 minutes the Rotary had collected its first £250.
In total, Haslemere Rotary Club’s collection on Saturday raised £2,618.
The club is planning to continue collecting funds on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Nine Haslemere businesses have already agreed to collect funds for the Rotary club. These are: Oliver’s Coffee, Haslemere Comrades Club, Darnley’s Cafe, Hemingways Coffee Shop, Heidi, Stable Yard Coffee Parlour, The Swan Inn pub and restaurant, Haslemere Garden Centre, and Sweet Peas Cafe.
Haslemere Rotary hope to have another six businesses on board soon.
