Haslemere Town Council has agreed to repair the Lion Green football pitch.

The pitch will be repaired with Coni Pave – which is a type of multi-use games area flooring.

The decision was made at last Thursday’s (July 21) full council meeting.

The motion put to councillors was: “That the football pitch at Lion Green is repaired using Coni Pave as per option two.

“The town clerk is instructed to get an updated quote from VitaPlan and the repair is to be funded from the section 106 money being held by Waverley for use in Haslemere.”

Cllr Simon Dear implored his fellow councillors to adopt the motion.

He said: “We have here a facility which encourages social interaction between children, exercise among children and friendly competition among children, all of which I think are very much to be admired.

“As a council, this is one of the things we can improve. We can provide an area which is better than it is at the moment, and I implore my brother and sister councillors to endorse the recommendation.”

Eight councillors voted in favour of the motion, with three councillors against. One councillor abstained from voting.

Elsewhere at the meeting, councillors agreed to accept a £3,774.80 quote from Citytalk Security to install CCTV at Hindhead roundabout. The town clerk was authorised to give the work the go-ahead.
