A FARNHAM runner is taking on an ultra marathon to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Bali.
And not only is she aiming to raise £7,500, Alice Evans is the only woman from the UK taking part.
The 26-year-old, who lives between Farnham and North Wales due to work, will be running 52 miles coast to coast across Bali overnight on May 25.
Alice is one of 20 runners from around the world taking part in the 2019 Bali Hope Ultra Marathon, which is raising money for The Bali Children Foundation – a charity which helps children finish school and find employment.
After taking part in last year’s London Marathon for the first time, and crossing the finish line in 3hr 47min, Alice decided to apply for the ultra marathon.
She told the Herald that having “been told as a young child ‘you can’t do that’ and even in my brain thinking ‘I can’t do that’”, such as remembering words, spellings and reading due to her dyslexia, she is “much more determined”.
“To see other colleagues and students and think ‘why can’t I do that’ – it pushes you.
“It’s almost like ‘I can do this’ and I think that is why I’m doing it I guess,” she added.
Alice is hoping to finish the ultra marathon “before the sun comes up”, but added: “It’s a bit terrifying.”
