The Donkey pub near Elstead will be closing its doors permanently on Mother’s Day – Sunday, March 10.

A statement was released on the pub’s Facebook page: “After 25 years Lee and Helen would love to see you for one more drink.

“As the pub is owned by the brewery they will take back the premises and sell the freehold for development.

“Lee would be delighted to cook up some of your Donkey favourites from over the years so please call 01252 702124 to discuss and book your table.”

The news came as a surprise to many, with regulars flooding the Facebook comments section expressing their shock while sharing their support and fond memories.

One person said: “Wishing you and the donkeys all the very best for the future!”

Another said: “So many happy memories of fantastic food, wonderful friendly service and great company over the years you will be missed!”
