QUICK-thinking 1st Milford Scouts troop leader Susan Mooney and Godalming Bowling Club members James Spring and Robin Amey have been rewarded for their lifesaving actions by Waverley mayor Denise Le Gal.
The Scouts group was at the bowling club on June 4 when a passing jogger appealed for help after finding a woman who had fallen unconscious in the park.
The three, assisted by the jogger, took it in turns to perform lifesaving CPR for around 15 minutes until the first responder and ambulance arrived.
Before Christmas, they were presented with resuscitation certificates from the Royal Humane Society by the mayor, who said: “In what must have been a traumatic and challenging situation, they quickly took control and administered CPR.
“The swift intervention of all four, none of whom are medical professionals, saved a life.
“It is wonderful to know we have such brave and outstanding individuals in our community and it gives me great pleasure to present each of them with the well-deserved certificate.”
Susan said: “We were just three ordinary people who had received basic first aid training and found ourselves in a position where we could use that knowledge to help someone.
“We were so relieved to hear not only was she alive but that she had made a full recovery.
“We would encourage people to do a first-aid course so if they found themselves in a similar situation, they could use the knowledge to possibly save someone’s life.”
