LIPHOOK Theatre Club held its annual summer workshop with 31 children joining in for a busy week of theatre and fun.

The workshop, launched in 2014, was run by Vanessa Breach in association with the Methodist Amateur Dramatics (MAD) Company and held at the church hall off London Road.

It culminated in a hilarious production of Jack and the Beanstalk – The Musical based on one of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, which the children performed on the final day in front of families and friends.

Children, ranging from five to 11, spent the week acting, singing and dancing, prop making, scenery and poster painting as well as playing lots of games.

Vanessa told The Herald: “This year we were able to include a back stage crew for those children who wanted to try their hand at something more technical.

”They all ended up on stage for the rousing finale and between them, were able to contribute to every aspect of the show.

“It is a wonderful way for them to be involved in every detail of theatre and really helps to give them confidence and promote team spirit as the children strive towards a common goal.

“It complements the MAD Company ethos in it’s inclusivity, with lots for the whole cast to do – on stage as well as off.

“As well as gaining experience, it was obvious from the comments from both children and parents that they enjoyed a wonderful week, making friends and working together and thanks must go everyone who assisted.
