MEDALS for outstanding service to Haslemere were awarded to another four volunteers at the latest ceremony held at the town hall.

The idea was instigated by Sir Ray Tindle, proprietor of The Herald, who presented the town council with a quantity of medals to be given in recognition of exceptional contributions to the life of the town. Residents nominate those who they think deserve the awards and an independent panel considers the names and recommends those thought worthy of the honour.

In the absence of the chairman, Hamish Donaldson, Fay Foster conducted the ceremony, giving a short explanation of the scheme and introducing the four candidates – Sarah Barnes, Jenny Hill, Bob Monteath and Anthony Ramsden. Haslemere Mayor Sahran Abeysundara read out the citations and placed the medal and ribbon around the necks of each.

Everyone then enjoyed wine and refreshments.

Residents can now nominate extra special people for the next award ceremony to be held in the spring.

Forms are available from Haslemere Town Council, or online at www.haslemere.com/awards
