THE civic ceremony for new Haslemere Mayor councillor Malcolm Carter and Mayoress Sandie Carter (pictured), was held on Sunday

It was attended by town councillors and guests including the mayors of Waverley, Farnham, Godalming, Bordon and Whitehill and the chairman of Cranleigh Parish Council.

The ceremony was led by Jonathan Carter, senior pastor at 3 Counties Church, and included a performance by jazz musician Christopher Clayden of Amesbury School, a reading by Holly Curran, new head girl at Woolmer Hill School, and an adapted reading of AA Milne’s ‘Vespers’ by the mayor’s young granddaughter Jemimah Carter.

Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts from the town presented their standards to the mayor to start the ceremony.

Guests also enjoyed music performed by 3 Counties Church and heard more about the mayor’s chosen charities for this year, which are 3 Counties money advice service, Haslemere Penny Ha’Penny Trust and Canine Partners. They were chosen because of their focus on the disabled and disadvantaged in the town and district.

The Oath of Office was delivered by The Rev Clare Shepherd, curate of St Stephen’s Church, Shottermill.
