VOLUNTEERS from across the borough were invited to a tea party at Charterhouse School by Waverley Mayor Mike Band as a thank-you for their vital work in the community.

Maureen Garnett, nominated for services to Haslemere Hall and the Poppy Appeal, joined volunteers from Haslemere’s Holy Cross Hospital and Hambledon Village Shop at the party, which was attended by more than 180 pillars of the community.

Mr Band said: “It was a real honour to meet with so many amazing volunteers.

“Without these people, who provide many vital support services throughout Waverley, the borough would simply not be the same great place it is today.

“I felt very inspired after hearing many of their stories. Thank you to all who came and I do hope that you will continue your excellent work.”

Councillors were asked to nominate people working for charities, voluntary groups and not for profit organisations to attend the reception.

Guests also included volunteers from Milford Hospital League of Friends, Sport Godalming, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Winkworth National Trust, Waverley’s Farnham Park and Phillips Memorial volunteers, Waverley’s tenants’ panel, Waverley’s Walks For Health, Waverley Surrey Youth Games, Meals on Wheels service, and village and community care groups.
