FLUENT Royal School student Mia Power beat off some stiff competition to win a Young Scribe award.

Mia’s letter, which was written in French on the theme of the market place, was entered for the Rotary international writing competition for schools, and it came out on top in the Haslemere Rotary challenge.

French Rotary Club St Jean D’Angely, which has close links with the Haslemere branch, judged the entries.

Haslemere Rotary president John Robini presented the award to Mia at a ceremony attended by Royal School principal Anne Lynch.

Mr Robini commended the Royal School for its continued support for community events and praised the Haslemere college for producing a succession of “confident, happy and well educated” students.

Entries by fellow Royal School students Bethany Webster and Izzy Field were awarded highly commended in the competition.

In July, Royal School student Helena Livsey-Hammond won a regional Farnham Rotary heat in the Young Writers competition and went on to gain a highly commended at national level for her entry Plagued by Suspicion.
