THE biggest turnout of cars for the event so far, fine sunny weather and a festival atmosphere all added up to a memorable day for Sunday’s Festival of Transport.

Organised by the Farnham Herald and Farnham Weyside Rotary Club in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, this year’s festival was extra special as it marked two decades of the motoring marvels.

More than 200 vehicles turned out, ranging from flash motor bikes and a Speedwell Dogcart dating from 1904 to the latest supercars from Ferrari, Noble, Aston Martin and Maclaren.

Upper Hart car park was crowded with families and petrol-heads, who came to study the immaculate machines.

Entertainment was provided by the Rock Choir and the Rumble Cats and a raffle for Pimm’s hampers raised £800.

Around midday many of the cars went on a parade around the town.

Once the cars had returned the winners of the different categories were announced and the trophies were presented by Ian Trotter, joint vice-chairman of trustees at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The winners were:

* Herald Best Vintage Car (up to 1935): John Emerton, Austin 7 Tourer

* Herald Best Classic Car (up to 1945): Jan & Phil Dunford, Austin 10 Colwyn

* Herald Best Car (after 1946): Mark Denton, Standard Vanguard 20S

* Herald Best Supercar: Stephen Bolton, Aston Martin GT8

* Herald Best Motorcycle: Mr Baker, AJS.

The trophy for the Herald Best in Show was presented by councillor Pat Evans to Mr Smith for his Armstrong Siddeley Star.
