A PIECE of land belonging to Haslemere Museum has been sold at auction for £150,000 – just days after it was sold to a private buyer for £130,000.

The museum said the 2.6 acre plot, off Three Gates Lane, had been unused for many years.

It was originally given to the museum in 1952.

Its sale was completed at the end of May, through Keats estate agency acting for the museum, for £130,000, with two parties bidding for it.

Museum trustee Christopher Ashton-Jones said it is understood the purchaser then put the land up for auction in London, where it fetched £150,000.

The land is beyond the museum's well-known pond and folly.
