PLANNING permission has been granted for a new care home on the site of the former Brethren’s Meeting Hall in West Street, Farnham.
Porthaven Care Homes was given the green light to demolish the existing place of worship and replace it with a 64-bedroom care home by Waverley Borough Council’s western planning committee last week.
The new home will provide 24-hour residential and nursing care for the elderly, including residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Each bedroom will offer an en-suite wetroom and residents will benefit from communal facilities including a café, hair salon and nail bar, cinema room, leisure and wellness room, a private dining room for special family occasions, as well as several lounges and dining rooms.
Porthaven says each room has been designed to incorporate the best of current innovation in care home design whilst maintaining a warm, safe, comfortable and homely environment.
John Storey, chief executive and founder of Porthaven, said: “We are very excited about this new home which will open in Spring 2017.
“Not only will we be providing a much needed service for the residents of Farnham and the surrounding area, but the home will also directly employ up to 80 local people as well as, we anticipate, become a valuable part of the local community.”
Porthaven was formed in 2009 to create a small group of leading care homes in the UK, and today operates seven care homes with 503 beds.
The company is steadily expanding with three further homes currently under construction.
