An adult male also suffered rib injuries, while a four-year-old girl had abdominal pains and a 12-year-old female passenger was thought to have an injured collarbone.
They were also taken by ambulance to St Richard's Hospital, and were in a serious, but non-life threatening condition as the Herald went to press.
Robert Walker, known affectionately as Bobby, had graduated from Woolmer Hill Technology College in the summer.
A spokesman for the college said he was very popular among staff.
