CONTROVERSIAL proposals to open a residential care home in Wey Hill for adults with learning disabilities were thrown out by Waverley planners last week.
Planning officers had recommended that the change of use sought for Whitethorns, a large detached property in Weydown Road, should be granted. But the scheme, which had triggered more than 40 objections, was refused by southern area committee members, on September 5.
Haslemere Town Council and a local nursery school were among those who had objected that it was an inappropiate use in a residential area, which would have an adverse impact on the amenity of the area.
Several objectors expressed concern that the behaviour of the care home residents could potentially cause safety concerns.
