‘If a robin in a winter landscape is not the most popular Christmas card subject, it must be very high up the list,’ writes Malcolm Harris, of Beech. ‘As a child I had a fondness for cards featuring Victorian, horse drawn mail coaches, but they have been out of fashion for decades and seem to have now completely disappeared. I wonder, given time,  if the same could happen to the robin?’

‘Mistletoe on Common Lime towers above new rooflines on the development at the former Molson Coors brewery in Alton,’ writes Dr June Chatfield. ‘Winter, when the leaves have fallen from trees, is the time to see mistletoe which is spreading and growing fast. It is a partial parasite on trees but with its yellow green leaves makes much of its own sugars from carbon dioxide and water in the atmosphere. From year to year the sizes and numbers of clusters in a tree can be seen to increase. It favours hybrid trees like Common Lime. Poplars and domestic apple.’

Alan Parks writes: ‘After seeing a photo in the Herald back in the Spring this year of Hartley Mauditt’s St Leonard’s Church and pond I thought it would be nice to visit the location as the seasons changed. So my photos are just that, the seasons as they change. This is a wonderful place to visit and as many readers will know the church was a location used by The BBC for Great Expectations’.
