POLICE are advising residents to be vigilant after reports of counterfeit currency being passed as payment in the East Hampshire area.

The fraudulent activity has included the use of £5, £20 and £50 notes. In advising people to check notes carefully, the police have also highlighted that a number of devices – such as UV lights and pens are available that can be used to ensure that notes are legal tender.

Anyone who has concerns, or who has fallen victim to counterfeit fraud should call police on 101.
