SOUTH West Surrey is gearing up for its third general election in four years after MPs backed a December 12 vote this week.
Waverley Borough Council is already a hive of activity according to returning officer Tom Horwood; busy confirming polling station venues, preparing the electoral register, booking printing companies, and appointing polling and count staff. It has also invited known party agents and candidates to a briefing.
Subject to the House of Lords passing the election bill this week, a notice of election is expected to be published by Waverley at 4pm on November 11.
Candidates must then submit their nomination papers before 4pm on November 14, with polling stations to open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, December 12.

Last date to register for the election: midnight at the end of Tuesday, November 26. Residents not registered, can do so online at www.gov.uk/registertovote
Last date for receipt of postal vote applications: 5pm on Tuesday, November 26.
