FARNHAM’S David Munro (Conservative) has been elected as Surrey’s new Police and Crime Commissioner, ousting independent Kevin Hurley.

Mr Munro, who announced he would step down as a Waverley borough and Surrey county councillor if elected PCC, won a total 100,122 votes compared to Mr Hurley’s 57,681.

The overall turnout for Surrey was 28.07 per cent - higher than the 16 per cent turnout for the first PCC election in 2012 but significantly short of the 66 per cent turnout for the 2015 general election.

The total number of verified ballot papers is 239,935 from a total electorate of 854,648 in Surrey.

David Munro said: “I am delighted in the confidence shown me by Surrey residents, and promise to serve them to the best of my ability for the next four years. I am particularly looking forward to working with the Chief Constable and all ranks and staff of Surrey Police in our joint enterprise of serving everyone in Surrey.”
