THE Surrey Poppy Appeal has reached its target of £1m for the third year running – and three months ahead of last year.

Surrey's total was £1,025,626 up £135,000 on 2010 by December 21.

Canon Peter Bruinvels, the Poppy Appeal's county field officer for Surrey and Greater London south west, said: "This is a most remarkable achievement at a time when jobs and the economy are under threat."
