AN appeal to raise money for a community Post Office in Haslewey Community Centre, has received a tremendous boost with a cheque for £2,000 from Care in Haslemere.

Mary Holthouse is president and founder member of the neighbourly help charity, set up in 1978 for the people of Haslemere and surrounding villages

She said at the presentation ceremony: “Our constitution states that it will support the local community and give assistance to any other likeminded charities when it can, and currently we are in a fortunate financial position to be able to help Haslewey in their project to set up a post office at Haslewey”.

In thanking Mary and Care in Haslemere, Haslewey’s chairman Penny Bradley said: “With this very generous donation, we are now almost two-thirds of the way in raising the £15,000 required and the end result is now almost within our grasp.”

A number of community Post Office fundraising events are already in the diary with the first, a concert in Haslewey by the renowned international violinist Ishani Bahoola on Friday, September 22.

Tickets are on sale at Haslewey priced at £10, include a glass of wine and cheese and biscuits during the interval.

The following day Haslewey will be selling a range of post office-inspired cakes, baked and iced by Haslewey’ s resident chef at the Haslemere Food Festival.
