A CHICANE of hazardous potholes on Shepherds' Hill, in Haslemere – set to be fixed by Surrey County Council – were considered not to be deep or wide enough to "warrant action for immediate repair".

A team of contractors arrived on July 12, but only filled in one hole. Haslemere's independent county councillor Nikki Barton called it an "utter debacle".

The road has been pock marked with holes for months, with motorists swerving to avoid the series of cracks and big hollows on both sides of the street.

The holes are up to two feet in diameter and 3ins deep over a 30-yard stretch, and have been there for several months.
