FERNHURST villagers enjoyed a flipping good time on Shrove Tuesday, this week. For the third-year running the event organised by Fernhurst Revels committee was hosted by the primary school with categories for everyone from the youngest pupils at the pre-school to fun races for adult residents.
Refreshments were provided by The Friends of Fernhurst School Parent Teacher Association and all funds raised will go towards refurbishment of the school's library.
Classes were divided into smaller groups for more spacious flipping of the rubber pancakes donated by Jif Lemons more than 20 years ago but which are still in good condition.
Entrants for the two pre-school races ran with paper plates and home-made Play-Doh pancakes stuck firmly to them.
Junior contestants were cheered on by a large crowd of friends and relations, but there was less enthusiasm to enter the adult races and only three men and four women took part – although they demonstrated an impressive turn of speed.
Small bags of sweets were presented as prizes.
The pre-school winners were: Tom Ward and Niamh Marston. The winners from reception up to class five were Henry Eden, Lily Shotter, Joe Skelton, Daniel Glazier, Ayrton Knappett, Alex Burnett, Zac Causer, Max Marston, Danielle Goodall and Jack Whittington. Laura Dixon won the ladies' race and Jonathan Elder won the men's race.
