HARD-pressed commuters from Haslemere will face another rise in fares from next month.

As South West Trains confirmed this week that fares on its services will rise by an average of 2.3 per cent from January 2, Haslemere Rail Users' Group said the "inflation-busting" increases of the last five years were not being matched by promised improved services and trains on the Waterloo and Portsmouth line.

The rail users' group also said the award of a new four-year franchise until March 2019 was "bad news for Haslemere travellers".
