RESIDENTS of Oak Hall care home in Haslemere enjoyed a festive concert thanks to the headteacher and choir of St Bartholomew’s Primary School.

Manager Janet Hall said: “Residents were delighted when the school choir sang carols and Christmas songs, accompanied by Charles Beckerson on his guitar.

“The children then enjoyed chatting to our residents over tea and cake.”

Each year in the run up to Christmas, the school choir tours Haslemere and sing Christmas songs for the community.

Oak Hall residents enjoyed joining in with the singing and the opportunity to offer refreshments afterwards and talk to the children.

Headteacher and guitarist Charles Beckerson added: “It is wonderful for the children to meet with the elderly residents of Oak Hall and bring them festive cheer at Christmas time.

“They love seeing the happiness on their faces as they spend the afternoon with them and it reminds us all of what Christmas is all about – love and joy.”

In addition to singing at Oak Hall, the school choir has sung carols in town at Tesco and the Hunter Centre. They also entertained rail passengers this week on Monday at 4.45pm, when they visited Haslemere Information Hub next to the station to sing.

Pupils from St Bartholomew’s also decorated the Christmas tree at Haslemere Station, which was one of five trees kindly donated by the National Trust to all the stations down the line that have joined with the town to create the recently formed Surrey Hills to South Downs Community Rail Partnership.

All the trees came from the National Trust’s Devil’s Punch Bowl site, where visitors have also enjoyed cutting their own before Christmas.
