A RETIREMENT party was held at Haslemere Fire Station for John Cooper.

John was the station commander at Haslemere for many years, before he was promoted to group commander for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

He retires after 30 years working for the fire service, and was presented with gifts at his retirement party.

John said: “I’m humbled. I wasn’t expecting all the presents – I’m moved.

“It’s mixed emotions, as I’m ready to move on to the next stage of life – but I know I will miss it.

“Working for the fire service is the best job in the world.”
