ENGLISH Heritage has warned that the DFN Foundation and Stepping Stones School's plan to extend Undershaw will cause "substantial harm" to the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at Hindhead.

The conservation and preservation body has objected to plans for a new extension, and alterations to parts of the original building which have historical associations with Doyle's home.

Its letter, which can be read on Waverley Borough Council's website stated: "From a heritage perspective we are in no doubt the scheme, as currently proposed, would cause substantial harm to the significance of Undershaw."
