HASLEMERE Scouts swept the board at the annual Muir Trophy competition at Camelsdale recreation ground.

Four troops from Haslemere and District competed in the challenge, organised by Peter Callender, assistant district commissioner for scouts, and the teams had 20 minutes to complete each of the four challenges, which involved building bridges using poles and ropes; getting across a shark-infested lake balancing on upturned buckets; and mapping and compass tests, where signs and grid references were the key to success.

Haslemere won with 41 points, followed by Camelsdale with 40, Fernhurst with 39 and Chiddingfold with 24. Following the presentation of the newly refurbished trophy by Mr Callender, the teams took part in a tug-o-war, in which 1st Haslemere came out on top and was presented with the tug-o-war trophy.
