THEY say you are never to old to learn how to dance - and a ballet class in Haslemere is proving it.

Silver Swans classes, which are designed for the over-55s and are held in Haslemere, Hindhead and Godalming, have been run by Milford and Brook School of Dance teacher Becky Bradbury since 2019.

The classes continued online throughout the lockdowns, creating opportunities for exercise and community for the vintage dancers. Last term they learned a simplified Giselle extract and resumed their ballet cinema trips.

Silver Swans member Flora Allen said: "I would never have imagined at the age of 73 I’d be going to ballet class for the first time with the Silver Swans classes!

"After a year of Becky’s carefully-constructed classes my legs and back are stronger, my balance improved and I am conscious of my deportment where before I hardly thought about it. Above all each class is fun, energising and not at all intimidating. I’ve also learned to appreciate ballet in much greater depth. A big thank you for all the happy hours."

Next term the children of the combined Milford and Brook and Hilary Marston Ballet Schools will dance an entirely children’s version of Giselle at Prior’s Field School on February 20. The dance school offers classes for dancers from two to 92 in Milford, Brook, Haslemere, Hindhead and Godalming.
