RAINBOW Nursery at St Stephen’s Church, Haslemere, is flying high, thanks to a cash donation from Heathrow Community Fund.

Nursery children can now play in their very own Wendy house, after the PTA project set up to raise enough money to buy one, received £2,500 from a new scheme specially designed to support airport staff who volunteer in their community.

Rainbow was awarded the money under the Heathrow Active People Initiative – run in partnership with London’s biggest airport.

The scheme is designed to help Heathrow employees support voluntary groups and clubs they are actively involved with. They can apply for grants of up to £2,500 from a total annual pot of £70,000.

Heathrow senior project manager Simon Newland, who volunteers for the nursery on its PTA, said: “I am proud to be involved with the Rainbow Nursery PTA team and have been inspired to help as a consequence of observing the hard work and enthusiasm for fund raising they have shown.

“The fund is designed to enable Heathrow employees like me to support good causes in our community.

“The new Wendy house is a great facility that will benefit the wider community and is very worthy of the £2,500 grant it received.”

Nursery manager Kim Windebank added: “The nursery is so grateful for this funding opportunity.

“Our dedicated and hardworking PTA were raising funds, but they would have taken some time to reach the target amount for the Wendy house.

“The involvement of Simon and the Heathrow Community Fund has offered the nursery a massive boost, enabling us to go ahead with the project much sooner than previously expected, which is wonderful.”

In the past two years, the fund has donated more than £1 million through three grant programmes. For more information and how to apply for grants go to: www.heath row.com/communityfund
