HASLEMERE Educational Museum welcomed Baroness Virginia Bottomley and MP Jeremy Hunt to a special viewing of the British Museum Spotlight Loan, Troy: beauty and heroism.

Baroness Bottomley and Mr Hunt are both patrons of the museum and were given a tour of the exhibition by the chairman Cllr Melanie Odell and the curator Julia Tanner.

Mr Hunt said: “As ever it was inspiring to see what a fantastic museum we have in Haslemere. To think it is hosting an extraordinary Greek vase that is 2,500 years old. Many congratulations to all the staff and volunteers at the museum for continuing to go from strength to strength.”

The British Museum Spotlight Loan Troy: beauty and heroism continues at Haslemere Museum until Saturday, May 7.

Upcoming events include a talk by classics scholar Chris Grocock entitled Achilles – the Ultimate Flawed Hero at 7.30pm on Tuesday, April 19 and a talk by Dr Chris Davies entitled Rediscovering Troy at 7pm on Thursday, April 28.
